THERE are those within PKR jealous of my success, said deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali.

He said his “enemies” were envious of his many accomplishments as Selangor menteri besar.

“In Selangor, I have been attacked and slandered. There were those who lodged a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission report against me.

“Shockingly, it was not by people on the outside, but enemies on the inside,” he said in his speech at the opening of the state PKR general assembly.

Azmin, who became menteri besar in 2014, stepped down from the post after he was chosen as economic affairs minister in Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s cabinet, following Pakatan Harapan’s 14th general election victory.

“They are jealous of Selangor’s successes. I have not attacked any individual, and because of this, people say I am too quiet.

“But, do not be an empty vessel. Still waters run deep.”

He said he would not respond to the accusations hurled at him as he believed truth always prevailed.

“I am patient, because I know I am on the right side.”

The Gombak MP reiterated that he had been loyal to PKR for the past 20 years, and was even arrested for it.

He took a veiled jab at fellow party member Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid, who had asked that he give up his seat to president-elect Anwar Ibrahim.

He ambiguously said the Kapar lawmaker was able to keep his seat as he brown-nosed top PKR leaders.

“There are MPs who survive because they ‘kiss hands’.”

The hottest battle in the upcoming PKR elections is for the No. 2 post, with vice-president Rafizi Ramli seeking to take over from Azmin.
