PAKATAN Harapan will not cooperate with Umno despite some in the opposition party wanting to work with PKR in the Port Dickson by-election, said Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The prime minister and PH chairman said Umno members must first quit their party and register with PH parties before they can be accepted.
“There is no way we will accept them into Pakatan Harapan (as a party).
“But if they individually join as party members of PKR, Bersatu, DAP, then we can accept them,” Dr Mahathir said today after a Bersatu leadership meeting.
He was asked about Umno’s Padang Rengas MP Nazri Abdul Aziz, who said he would stump for Anwar Ibrahim in the Port Dickson by-election to pave the way for Anwar’s return to Parliament.
Nazri had said that he would support Anwar, the PKR president-elect, as some took the view that Umno could return to power with PKR’s help.
Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa also said the opposition party was willing enough to cooperate with anyone in PH, including Bersatu and DAP.
Dr Mahathir laughed off a claim by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang that a PH party would be joining the opposition soon.
“They are the opposition now. He said one PH party will join PAS? Is he kidding?” asked Dr Mahathir. – September 14, 2018.
