PKR central election committee members are not involved in the case of bribery allegedly committed by the former Kedah coordinator.

Committee chairman Rashid Din said the party’s internal probe found no evidence of graft.

“The election committee has carried out an internal investigation, involving all committee staff, and found that they have not broken laws or gone against ethics in regard to this year’s party elections.

“We are very serious about this. We do not look at this lightly. We do not tolerate such matters,” he told a press conference in Petaling Jaya today.

He reiterated that the Kedah coordinator involved in the case has been replaced, and that the polls process will proceed.

“It does not affect our elections, even though the coordinator was arrested. He has already been replaced.”

Rashid said only two men are confirmed to have been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

MACC arrested the duo, aged 48 and 46, for allegedly asking for RM20,000 from a man to keep his name in a database as a registered candidate, so that he can contest a post in the Kedah branch leadership.

State MACC director Mohd Fauzi Mohamad has confirmed the arrests.

The two were nabbed on Saturday – one at a restaurant in Alor Star, and the other at the Pendang toll plaza.

Authorities seized RM10,000 in cash from the suspects. – September 18, 2018.
