MOHD Saiful Bukhari Azlan is contesting in the Port Dickson by-election against PKR’s president-elect Anwar Ibrahim.

The former aide to Anwar confirmed that he will be contesting but it was not out of revenge towards the prime minister-in-waiting.

“I have decided to contest in Port Dickson as an independent. This is not about revenge, this is for personal reasons,” Saiful Bukhari told The Malaysian Insight when contacted.

He also said this was because he wants to serve the people of Port Dickson and uphold democracy, which was seemingly disregarded by PKR when they removed a sitting MP for Anwar.

“This is about me wanting to be a lawmaker and serve the people,” said Saiful Bukhari.

Saiful Bukhari claimed he was sodomised by Anwar in 2008 and lodged a police report against the then PKR leader after a meeting with then deputy prime minister Najib Razak and his aide.

He subsequently testified that he kept Anwar’s semen in his anus for three days before lodging a report, which eventually led to the PKR leader’s jailing.

Anwar had always maintained that he was a victim of political conspiracy.

He was pardoned by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong soon after Pakatan Harapan captured power in the 14th general election.

PKR’s former Port Dickson MP Danyal Balagopal Abdullah made way for Anwar to contest which will allow him back into Parliament.

The move has been condemned by several quarters, including army veteran group Patriots, as Danyal represented their rights in the Dewan Rakyat.

About 7,000 voters from Port Dickson are from the armed forces.

PAS is fielding former air force officer Mohd Nadzari Mokhtar to contest against Anwar.

Anwar will go up against Nazari, former Negri Sembilan menteri besar Isa Samad – who is contesting as an independent – another independent, Stevie Chan and a Parti Rakyat Malaysia candidate.

The Port Dickson parliamentary seat has 75,212 registered voters, comprising Malays (43%), Chinese (33%), and Indians (22%).

Nomination is tomorrow and polling day is on October 13. – September 28, 2018.
