ANWAR Ibrahim is not interested in his one-time aide Saiful Bukhari Azlan’s campaign for the Port Dickson by-election.

The incoming PKR president said he would instead be concentrating on his own campaign to win the parliamentary seat.

Saiful Bukhari had in 2008 claimed he was sodomised by Anwar, resulting in the latter being jailed.

“It’s up to Saiful (to use the sodomy issue as campaign material). I don’t want to interfere.

“I am concentrating on my task, which is to strengthen the government under the leadership of Dr Mahathir Mohamad, and to ensure we fulfil our commitments to Port Dickson voters and people,” he said after the nomination process at the Port Dickson Municipal Council building today.

Earlier, Saiful Bukhari told The Malaysian Insight that he would not use the sodomy issue as campaign fodder.

“I will not raise old issues. This is not about vengeance or revenge. This is purely me entering the democratic process,” he said, adding that he was not paid by anyone to contest in the by-election.

The by-election on October 13 will see a seven-cornered fight with five independents in the ring, including former Umno strongman and ex-Negri Sembilan menteri besar Isa Samad.

Others in the race are PAS’ Mohd Nazari Mokhtar and independents Lau Seck Yan, Stevie Chan and Kan Chee Yuen.

The Port Dickson by-election was called after its incumbent MP, Danyal Balagopal Abdullah, vacated the seat to allow Anwar to contest to make his return to Parliament.

The Port Dickson parliamentary constituency has 72,212 registered voters, comprising 42.7% Malays, Chinese (33.1%) and Indians (22%). – September 29, 2018.
