THE Malaysian Insight is starting a series on marginal seats as the nation heads towards the 14th general election. We will look at the issues that influence which way the votes will go. The focus today is Kulim Bandar Baharu.

If you ever wondered the reasons that kept Barisan Nasional (BN) in power all these years despite the scandals and the opposition’s ability to win the popular vote in GE13, look no further than Kulim-Bandar Baharu.

The closely-fought federal seat has swung from BN to the opposition in 2008 and back to BN in 2013 in close fights with a majority of three percent.
