WANT to own a unique bag 100% made by hand?
These colourful bags are sold by Helping Hands Penan, a not-for-profit organisation based in Brunei.
The bags are handwoven by a group of 60 Penan women from villages in Ulu Limbang, near Miri, Sarawak, and sold between RM30 and RM120, depending on the size and design.
The bags are popular with customers, their interest piqued by colourful patterns. Almost every item will be sold at the end of every bazaar Helping Hands Penan attends.
The profits from the sales of these handicrafts are channeled back to the Penan community through initiatives like education, solar lighting projects and more.
These handwoven bags not only make a fashion statement but also supports the lives of the Penan community. – October 4, 2017.
